Once again, my blogging has fallen by the wayside as we work diligently behind-the-scenes to secure an MLS franchise for St. Louis. As usual, activity has far from ceased. Rather, our quest for an MLS team continues to gain momentum and we expect that we will have big news to share with you soon. |

Congrats To Philly – And We're Next |
|
February 29, 2008 by Jeff Cooper
Major League Soccer on Thursday introduced Philadelphia as the league’s 16th and newest team, to begin play in 2010. And today, I am probably more confident in our chances to bring MLS soccer to St. Louis, in a new stadium in Collinsville, as I have ever been.
Before I explain, let me first congratulate Philadelphia. Like St.
Louis, the Philadelphia metro area has a strong soccer tradition and an
avid, built-in fan base that in no time will make that franchise one of
the premier operations in the league. Further, the Philadelphia bid
was very impressive, and to that end I commend Jay Sugarman, Nick
Sakiewicz, James Nevels, William Doran and everyone involved in the
Philly effort.

TIF Approved – St. Louis is Ready |
|
A belated but sincere Happy New Year to everyone. I apologize for not keeping the blog feature on our website more up to date, but over the past few months the process of attracting a Major League Soccer expansion franchise for St. Louis had essentially reached a point where there wasn't much to report. That isn’t to say there wasn't activity, because there was. And there is. But as we continue to explore ways of strengthening our position in the eyes of the league, the best way to accomplish that is to work closely and in confidence with potential investor candidates who share the same vision and passion for the game – and St. Louis – as I do. |

My apologies for this being my first blog in over a month. I have several reasons for being so late, including my “day job” requiring a significant amount of my attention in recent weeks and we’ve been quietly, but diligently, working behind the scenes toward our goal of bringing a Major League Soccer expansion franchise to St. Louis. Also, as the father of three youngsters, I’ve been immersed in fall soccer, as I am sure many of you have been as well. |

At the Collinsville City Council meeting on Monday, Sept. 10, it was pointed out by the city manager as well as advocates of our stadium and development proposal that one of the intangible pluses to bringing Major League Soccer here would be worldwide exposure for Collinsville.
Exposure, or awareness, is a difficult benefit to measure. But I think we can safely say that exposure is a starting point. Already, Collinsville is enjoying some very positive exposure.

By now you certainly know that our stadium proposal was passed by the Collinsville City Council by a 4-1 margin on Monday night. To everyone who has stood nearby or supported us from afar, my sincerest thanks. One of the most rewarding aspects of Monday’s vote is the clear confirmation that Collinsville, the St. Louis region, and soccer fans from throughout the Midwest want to see this happen. That much is unmistakable, from the firm vote of approval by the City Council, to the dozens of supporters who attended the meeting, to the hundreds of people I have heard from in the past 48 hours, and to the thousands who visit this website in the name of supporting our goal to bring Major League Soccer to the St. Louis area. |
